About The Great Northern Hotel Kings Cross, St. Pancras, London

Location

We’re in the heart of King’s Cross. Once an industrial transport hub, now one of London’s most exciting and fast changing destinations. Home to the world’s biggest organisations and some of London’s most exciting start-ups. A place brimming with restaurants, bars, shops and venues. It remains London’s most important transport hub – the gateway to the city, the link to the North and the point of embarkation for journeys to Europe.

From here you can explore all London has to offer from its best-connected Underground station, you can discover the past and future of King’s Cross and you can set off on longer journeys. It’s the perfect base.

History & Heritage

Our award-winning, grade II listed hotel was first unveiled in 1854. It’s the oldest railway hotel in London and the only one designed by architect Lewis Cubitt. It’s a place that has much to celebrate and many stories to tell – from the curve that follows the route of the old St Pancras Road, to the thick, clinker-filled walls, to its place in an amazing historical, industrial landscape.

We’re proud of our heritage and passionate about keeping it alive. We have carefully balanced the past and the future to create a hotel that remains relevant, innovative and admired. We celebrate our history but look forward to our future. And we continue to create wonderful experiences for our guests.

  • GNH Fact - No.3

A fine place to pitch in London Long time readers to may know that I have stayed at the St. Pancras Renaissance hotel several of times over the years and had become increasingly disillusioned with the lack of upgrades and poor customer service, so I decided to give the Great Northern Hotel a go on my most recent visit to London - and I’m happy to report that I was not disappointed. As a Titanium elite member my room was upgraded from the smallest room in the hotel, (couchette), to the largest (Victorian) room available within hours of me placing the booking. This is a superb way to treat elite members and even when I had to adjust the dates and cancel and rebook the room the exact same automative upgrade happened: my room was upgraded to the largest room in the hotel within hours. The hotel is as close to Kings Cross station that you can imagine. Inside the furnishings are simply beautiful with a real small time boutiquey hotel feel. The corridors are wide with a mix of carpet and wooden floors. The place feels airy and cool thanks to some decent air-conditioning (rare for a property in London). I was traveling with children and needed a rollaway bed which for which I was charged £50. This is not an unreasonable charge but the room was made considerably smaller by this addition. The furnishings of the room are beautifully appointed. Everything appears to be in immaculate condition including the bathroom. I was also delighted to see that there was some incredible soundproofing thanks to double glazed windows. Nary a police siren nor a car horn could be heard through the windows which is remarkable considering this is one of the most busiest parts of the capital. Breakfast was held each morning in the Rails Restaurant. As Titanium guest I was allowed to choose anything from the menu and traveling with two children there were no restrictions on what I could order. I chose four dishes (one per person) along with pastries and toast, together with at least five drinks each morning and received no bill whatsoever at the culmination of each meal. This alone is worth at least £75 per day and is a huge perk. The hotel staff are also particularly obliging and able to provide bottled water on request and proper Nespresso pods for the coffee machine each day. Having been a little apprehensive about staying here after several stays at the neighbouring property, I have now revised my assessment of where to stay when needing to get the train to Kings Cross or the tube to Heathrow. I will continue to frequent the Great Northern hotel so long as there are decent rates both cash and redemption available. Overall, this was a nice surprise and one to remember.

Very good hotel right at the metro station The hotel is very centrally located, just off the Kings Cross metro station and surrounded by many nice restaurants and shops. The breakfast in the restaurant is excellent, the rooms are nice and comfortable, the staff is very friendly and competent.
