1854 - 2024
The Great Northern Hotel first opened its doors 170 years ago and is the capital’s oldest railway hotel. Designed by architect Lewis Cubitt, it stands in a grade II listed landmark building in the heart of King’s Cross.
We are immensely proud to be commemorating our 170th anniversary this year and invite you to share in the celebrations and mark this momentous occasion with us.

Celebrate with us
Anniversary Cocktail
Paying homage to our best-selling Lady Violet cocktail — Fruity, elderflower-infused vodka layered over champagne and rich Chambord. Kicking off our anniversary in style!
Mirror Mirror
The symbol displayed on mirrors at the hotel is a stylised depiction of a compass rose. Embodying exploration and adventure, it reflects our association with travel and the Great Northern Railway.
Did you know?
IT'S A MATCH
The pastel blue of our stairwell railings matches the cast iron ceiling framework of St Pancras International. Paying homage to the hotel’s origins as the first great railway hotel.
MAKE WAY
Have you ever noticed how luxuriously wide our corridors are? They were made just wide enough for a hoop-skirted Victorian maid to wander down without getting stuck!
Why the curve?
The distinctive curve of the Great Northern Hotel followed the course of old St Pancras Road – which was itself originally curved to follow the (now buried) banks of the River Fleet!
Rest Assured
All our beds are handcrafted by Hypnos Beds — a British, family-run company who have been making sustainable luxury beds for nearly 120 years and have even supplied the Royals.
